Special Meeting to Discuss Girls Academy, June 17
HPNA will host a special meeting on Tuesday, June 17 at 6 p.m. at theNeighborhood Center about the proposed public charter for a Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy. The purpose of this meeting is to share information with residents about the charter school.
Established in 2007, the Young Women's Leadership Academy Foundation (YWLAF) was organized to sponsor the first public charter school for girls in Chattanooga - Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy.
Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy will only serve girls who are attending or assigned to a school that is failing to meet its Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) or girls who are testing below proficiency in math and/or language arts.
YWLAF will submit an application to the Hamilton County Department of Education. If approved, Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy will open its doors in July 2009 with 6th and 9th grade students, with the ultimate goal of enrolling 350 girls in grades 6th - 12th.
The organizers feel that HP residents of Highland Park may be interested in the proposed school, since it could be located in our neighborhood.
