Alley Debacle Finally Settled

The City Council approved a resolution Tuesday night granting permanent closure of an alley on the 1500 block of Chamberlain Avenue. The 5-4 vote for permanent closure was finally possible with all council members in attendance.

This vote followed several deadlocked votes in recent weeks, due to absences of supporting council members. Voting in favor of closure were Debbie Gaines, Linda Bennett, Duke Franklin, Dan Page and Leamon Pierce. Dissenting were Jack Benson, Manuel Rico, Sally Robinson and Marti Rutherford.

We are going to be the new neighbors at 1503 Chamberlain and this alley was a big concern for us. I am so glad that it is going to be closed and I feel like the neighborhood is one step closer to becoming what it should be! Thanks guys!

Well, then I think you'll be happy to know the house right next to you (1505) is probably going to start renovation soon. The permit notice was nailed up last Thursday, and they contractor said they hope to begin their part of the work by August/September.

That's great! I hear that it is going to be beautiful! We are so excited about getting to the neighborhood! My husband drives by the house every night on his way to his hotel!
